To fly a helicopter for recreation, you’ll need a Private Helicopter License. This will allow you to operate a helicopter for travel and enjoyment purposes, including transporting passengers and baggage, as long as you haven’t been hired to do so. It’s illegal for private helicopter pilots to receive any form of money or compensation for flying a helicopter, but you are allowed to share gas costs and operating expenses.

To obtain a Private Helicopter License, you need to pass numerous eligibility requirements determined by the Federal Aviation Administration, which is the agency that governs helicopter flying in the United States. The following are the FAA requirements:
